What is Neighborhood Watch?
What is the best crime prevention tool ever invented? A good neighbor! That pretty much sums it up!! A Neighborhood Watch (NW) program is a group of people living in the same area who want to make their neighborhood safer by working together and in conjunction with local law enforcement to reduce crime and improve their quality of life. NW fights the isolation that a crime creates and feeds upon. It forges bonds among area residents, helps reduce burglaries, robberies and improves relations between police and the communities they serve.
What benefits come from NW? With residents becoming the extra “eyes and ears” of law enforcement, so necessary with budget cuts and reduction in law enforcement personnel, crime is reduced. The quality of life of residents improves and a greater sense of security develops. People feel more responsible for crime prevention and more in control. In the process of participating in NW, community is built, pride grows and unity is expanded.
A Network of Rosemont Residents
Already there are a number of NW groups actively keeping an eye on what is happening on their streets, with participants prepared to act to help law enforcement prevent crimes. RCA is working to help NW Coordinators form a network with one another to establish a powerful means of communication within our community. In this way, coordinators can be quickly informed of the latest crime trends and better prepared to notify neighbors so they can take preventive actions.
